“Art-full Integrations” – Web Services

Each month, Art Harrison, VP of Marketing, attempts to answer a technical question or showcase an idea from IGUANA users using his own sense of humor, insight and homemade videos. He calls this series of videos “Art-full Integrations” and swears there’s nothing he can’t do or answer with IGUANA. Want to prove him wrong? Email us or comment below and we’ll see if you can stump Art.

Hi Art,

Our next integration project requires the use web services and I’m wondering if I can do this using IGUANA? Is it easy to do?

Thanks!

Web Service Novice

Dear Web Service Novice,

Yes, absolutely! Connecting to a web service using the Translator can honestly be done with only 1 line of code! Plus, creating and hosting your own web service really isn’t any more difficult; it might end up running 5-10 lines though … Easy enough?

Have a look at our Knowledge Base for detailed documentation and to help you get familiar with all your web services options. There’s a ton of useful information like FAQs and tips and tricks.

Oh, and because this month’s challenge was a piece of cake, I threw together this awesome video, Having Fun With IGUANA: Web Services. In it I’ll show you how to manage your interfaces via a cell phone and a 3rd party phone service called Twilio. Don’t worry, we haven’t forgotten about providing you the code samples so click here to get them.

If you’d like a chance to stump me, just leave a comment below and your challenge could be featured in the next “Art-full Integrations”. Also, don’t forget to subscribe to our newsletters (I am in Marketing after all!).

Happy integrations!

Art Harrison

Having just developed my first Web Services interface (a mechanism to validate postal addresses against Melissadata.com, used during the intake process for a home health EMR provider), I can attest to the ease of development of these types of integration with Iguana.

My latest challenge has been to create a framework for the Salesforce OAuth2 Server Authentication flow for access to their RESTful API. This requires periodic refreshing of the access token and maintenance of tokens across multiple invocations. If you’d like to discuss for a future Art-ful demonstration, let me know 🙂

    Nice work on the presentation!

    Question:
Would it handle authentication using certificates too?
Guess so since you refere to HTTPS everywhere. (but your example was using HTTP, wasn’t it?)

I’m glad to you liked it!

Absolutely, you can definitely handle authentication using certificates. I believe the article that describes how is here: http://help.interfaceware.com/kb/836

Let me know if you have any other questions (or if you have suggestions for my next video … )
