Kicking off our series is Terri Powell, Office Manager extraordinaire and key member of everyone’s team. What started off as a temporary position at iNTERFACEWARE has extended to over 11 years!
How do you explain what we do to your friends?
I say that I work at a healthcare software company. We’ve developed a tool that connects different systems so they can send data like patient information, electronically to places like hospitals.
You’re always so busy, what are your main duties here?
I try to help out in most departments where I can. A lot of the incoming calls will come to my desk. If a sales manger is on the other line, I’m happy to speak with the customers and help them out with orders and invoicing. When the support team is engaged in technical inquires, I’m able to step in to provide customers with admin support so they can access their online Members Account and activate IGUANA. If the development team needs a new feature for Iguana, well, I can’t really do anything there, I let the experts do their jobs!!
We do enjoy meeting our customers face to face, so I’m happy to help the marketing, sales and development departments with their travel bookings. Most of my customer correspondence is through phone and email but I am looking forward to seeing many faces this September at the 2nd Annual Iguana User Conference in Toronto.
Is there anything we could do to help you out?
Yeah, please recycle!
When you get into the office, what’s the first thing you do?
I grab a tall glass of water with tons of ice and with my oatmeal, I go through my emails from overnight.
What are some favorite things about working here?
I love the open concept work-space and of course the people. Everyone’s so nice and you get to see everyone everyday. It’s a family-like environment and it’s a casual place so I don’t have to dress up.
Oh and of course – since moving, we’ve got a beautiful view of Toronto.
Since you’ve been here, what’s one of your favorite memories?
A few years ago, we went Go Karting for our holiday party. I came in third!
Can you code?
Ha ha! The other day my nephew asked the same question and I said, “Eliot won’t let me!” I’m not a coder but I can understand what’s going on usually.
Any hidden talents then?
Coding is definitely not one, but I do have two: baton twirling (yes even the ones on fire), and amazing Tetris abilities on the old-school Nintendo. Maybe I should start challenging other staff to a Tetris-off. Art, are you ready? And in case you don’t know who Art is, he’s our VP of Marketing & Communications – you might recognize him from our videos.
Since now you’re a super hero, what power will you want?
I would love to fly because it would let me get to places quickly. I don’t have time to wait for the TTC.
If you could start over again, what would you like to be doing and why?
An underwater photographer because I love the sun, beach, water, photography and scuba diving.
If someone wrote a biography about you, what would the book’s title be?
Terri’s Travels.
Before starting here, I was lucky to visit many wonderful places including:
Alaska, Netherlands, London, Greece, Portugal, Belgium, France, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Fiji, New Zealand, Australia, Papa New Guinea, and Ireland.
While working here, I’ve also travelled to Cuba, Dominican Republic, and Switzerland, to name a few. I am also very willing to visit customers located in Malta! (wink wink)
Last but not least, Coke or Pepsi?
I don’t love soft drinks. As long as the cup is filled with ice, I’d probably choose Coke more often.
