One of the great things about our position as an integration vendor is that we get to witness – and often be a part of – some of the amazing things that are happening throughout the healthcare industry. That was never more apparent than when we sat down with the team over at Rush Memorial Hospital to learn a little more about how they were using IGUANA.
Below is a quick summary of our conversations, but if you’d like to learn more:
- You can read or download the entire case study from our website, or better yet,
- Join Jim Boyer, CIO of Rush Memorial and other guest speakers at the IGUANA User Conference on September 19-20.
How is IGUANA being used?
At Rush Memorial Hospital, the IGUANA integration engine plays a pivotal role in maximizing operational efficiencies and helps to maintain a strong commitment to high quality patient care. IGUANA is being used in a number of non-traditional ways to increase staff productivity, generate internal business intelligence dashboards, and recover lost revenue from charge entries.
Wait, are you saying that IGUANA actually helps Make Money?
Yes! (well, sort of..) According to the team at Rush, the traditional complexity of the billing process often results in lost revenue for hospitals. To counter this, Rush Memorial uses IGUANA to not only automate the submission of claims but also to ensure that a clean claim – one that meets the requirements of the participating provider – is submitted.
“IGUANA plays a critical role in ensuring we submit clean claims and receive full reimbursements for our services. These interfaces are responsible for recovering a significant amount of potential lost revenue”
Are there other ‘non-traditional’ ways to use IGUANA?
At Rush Memorial, the team feels that everything is a potential target for IGUANA integration.
“We can integrate anything we want. IGUANA is only limited by our imagination”
When we asked for an example, they shared with us their process of automating patient telephone reminders in order to eliminate the time-consuming method of manual phone calls made by hospital staff. The appointment schedule information is stored in the database of the hospital’s HIS. IGUANA uses direct SQL calls to access the information, which is then converted to RESTful API calls and sent to the automated reminder service.
“IGUANA seamlessly integrates with our appointment reminder service to allow us to automate the calls to our patients. This enables our staff more time to dedicate to our patients”
What are your future plans for IGUANA?
“We have a lot of ideas for future projects using IGUANA to enhance patient-care and improve the operational efficiencies of our hospital. The flexible nature of IGUANA allows us to conceptualize an idea, make a decision to go forward and have a working solution in a week”
