3AM Technologies

Continuing with our focus on interesting uses of IGUANA, today I wanted to bring you the story of 3AM Technologies.  Their story shares a common thread with many other iNTERFACEWARE customers:

  • Someone who has used IGUANA in the past arrives at a new company
  • They immediately see how greatly things can be improved with IGUANA
  • IGUANA becomes the new integration platform.

That’s a story we hear over and over again (though, we never get tired of hearing it).  Once people use IGUANA, they’re hooked and excited about integration.

Note: That’s exactly why we’re one of the few vendors who actually make our product free to download and try from our website.  Download a copy today and try our getting started tutorials to see for yourself!)

Anyway, back to 3AM Technologies.  Below is a quick summary of our recent conversation.

If you’d like to learn more:

  • You can read or download the entire case study from our website, or better yet,
  • Join James Maxwell, Co-Owner and VP of Software Development at 3AM Technologies and other guest speakers at the IGUANA User Conference on September 19-20.

What is 3AM Technologies?

3AM Technologies is the developer of the ServeRx Medication Management System, an automated dispensing, inventory control, and medication administration solution, which includes a stationary and mobile cabinet solution aimed at the underserved markets of Critical Access Hospitals and Correctional Facilities.

Why Critical Access Hospitals and Correctional Facilities?

Historically, Critical Access Hospitals and Correctional Facilities have not been able to afford the automated dispensing solutions used in larger facilities. This is due to a combination of the physical footprint of the devices, feature sets that are incompatible with needs of smaller facilities and a significant difference in the integration landscape found within these markets. On top of that, the EMRs and HIS systems typically used in small facilities are different from those found in larger hospitals. The greater range and diversity of systems that require integration means there is less opportunity to amortize the cost of integration than within the economies of scale of larger facilities.

According to 3AM Technologies, that’s the reason the ServeRx Medication Cabinet was created: To provide a smaller footprint and a streamlined feature set that better addressed the requirements and budgets of the market.

You switched from “someone else” to IGUANA.  Why?

“Given my previous experience, this was an easy decision to make. I’ve seen integration costs drop dramatically with IGUANA.  I’ve used multiple engines in the past and IGUANA is by far the easiest and most powerful. It does everything I ask in a simple and elegant way.”

How exactly have you seen costs drop?

“Being able to see how code changes affect data in real-time is extremely powerful.  This kind of integrated testing saves us a great deal of time and shortens our testing phase.  We’re [also] able to quickly find errors and pin-point their cause, which allows our clients to own the testing phase. The testing phase is always the most time consuming for us, so any time reduction results in significant savings”

What’s next for 3AM’s use of IGUANA?

Currently over 35 percent of 3AM’s client base is using IGUANA and that number is increasing with each new deployment. This expanding client list includes over 40 hospitals in the United States, Europe and the Middle East.

“We’ve been thrilled to add the IGUANA platform to our ServeRxTM product. IGUANA eases the integration of our pharmacy management system with software resources from any other vendor. We are definitely seeing great value being added to our product,”

We want to thank the team at 3AM Technologies for sharing these stories with us.

It’s exciting to see a business embrace integration as a valuable product feature that can help create operational efficiencies rather than being a source of new headaches!
