Is moving IGUANA too easy to believe?

Whether you’re moving from test to production or retiring an old server, moving an IGUANA instance and all of it channels is really simple. In fact, it’s so simple, sometimes our customers don’t believe it.

Now, you don’t need to take my word for it. (Although, there’s no reason you shouldn’t, I’m pretty trustworthy.) Here’s a recent real-life scenario from our support channel:

  1. A customer (who I will refer to as Zeus) searched our Knowledge Base and found the instructions on moving IGUANA from one server to another.
  2. Zeus, then wrote into Support with the following inquiry:

I’m following this KB article: http://help.interfaceware.com/kb/1217 and I just have one quick question: I do not have to export and re-import any channels? All of the data is in the IguanaConfiguration.xml, IguanaEnv.txt, vcs_repo.sqlite and log files? If so, this is going to be extremely quick and painless.

  3. Support quickly confirmed that Zeus understood the process correctly.
  4. Approximately 27 minutes later, Support received the following gracious message from Zeus:

Just wanted to pass on a HUGE thank you! I now have Iguana running successfully on a brand new server. I have migrated software from old servers to new servers before, but this was the easiest move ever.

Again, thank you for making things so simple.

I encourage you to read over the Knowledge Base article in it’s entirety before moving your IGUANA instance(s) as it covers what specific files you need to copy depending on your version, use of VMD files and your requirements for logs.

I hope you find the process as simple as “Zeus” did and you’ll want to stay tuned as this process may become even easier in the future! How’s that for a teaser?
