What if… HL7 was truly made easy?

Today, we here at iNTERFACEWARE are very pleased to announce the launch of our newly redesigned website: http://www.interfaceware.com

The first thing people seem to notice from our website – and the same goes for our appearances at trade shows and other industry events – is our tag line: “HL7 Integration Made Easy“. I can’t tell you how many conversations I’ve had that have started with: “…you had me at Easy!”.

One of the things we’re most proud of here at iNTERFACEWARE is the fact that we’ve been able to make HL7 workable, understandable, implementable, … and even easy for our customers.

Our updated website also has great HL7 information for beginners and tons of other valuable tools and information for the HL7 community.

So, have a look and enjoy the site. We do our best to bring great HL7 resources to our customers, and we also recognize many non-customers come to our site for our extensive information. So, customer or not, if there’s a tool, a subject or just a single question you’d love to know the answer to, feel free to ask. When it comes to HL7, iNTERFACEWARE is full of experts, and it’s thanks to their combined dedication that we’re able to continue making HL7 – and HL7 Integration – easy!

    Gday Art,

Forgive me for missing something which may be obvious, but, as a developer, how can one proactively request bulk data from a data provider?

For example, we have analysis software which needs to retrieve data in bulk from the EMR. How would an HL7 conversation “look” for this interchange?

      Hi Pat,

That is sort-of a tricky question to answer. I’m a little unclear on exactly what you’d like to do, but let me try to fill in a few blanks…

There are a few ways you could go about receiving bulk data from a provider. There is a batch message structure in HL7, so you could receive all the data as a single file and parse it on your end. There is also a method to request data from a provider (referred to as Query/Response) in HL7, so that might be what you’re looking for.

Even more likely however, is to create a relationship with that provider, build your interface to receive the messages and then have them send you everything they have (or everything within a certain timeframe). With a tool like Iguana, you would be able to receive and log all of the incoming messages and parse them into a database or some other structure on your end. Once you have the “batch” of messages, you also have a lot of options in terms of testing/building your system, such as using some of Iguana’s advanced features to resubmit individual HL7 messages or entire message streams.

Without knowing all of your environment details, it’s hard for me to give a much more detailed answer than that. Please feel free to download our tools, talk to your account manager and talk with our support and pre-sales teams as they would be more than happy to help you find the best solution for your needs.

Sorry, as a bit of background, we develop in Delphi and I have been looking at the iNTERFACEWARE help file.

Thanks Art, I think the Query/Response scenario is the one. Is there anyone I can contact in Australia for further information?

My pleasure, Pat. I’ve passed your contact information on to our Australian account manager, so he should be in touch shortly. Good luck!
