It’s not secret that IGUANA’s history is deeply rooted within the healthcare industry. As IGUANA’s market penetration continues to increase year over year, people from other industries are taking notice.
Increasingly, we are being asked: “Can IGUANA be used outside of healthcare?
The answer: Absolutely! In fact, many of our current healthcare clients are already using IGUANA for their non-healthcare needs.
IGUANA excels at handling all kinds of messaging formats and transport mechanisms, many of which aren’t proprietary to the healthcare industry. Standards such as XML, JSON, X12, SOAP and RESTful web services are all a breeze to work with using the IGUANA Translator. However, it wasn’t always this way.
In the beginning…
The first versions of our products were undoubtedly healthcare specific. Everyone needed to work with HL7 (Health Level Seven). So, we based the majority of our workflow on handling HL7, as did all of our competitors. This gave birth to the niche market of HL7 interface engines.
Our aha! moment came about 4 years ago, when we challenged the industry assumptions (including our own) on what an integration could be. The result was the IGUANA Translator. Suddenly, we didn’t have just an HL7 interface engine anymore; we had a platform that was capable to handle any kind of data, regardless of industry.
The timing was impeccable. The healthcare industry had begun a shift away from the simple HL7 interface and we already had the platform that would allow them the flexibility to handle any kind of data they needed.
Nowadays, we are just as likely to hear about customers building RESTful web services with IGUANA, as we are about HL7 interfaces.
We love a good challenge.
As more and more people begin to see IGUANA as more than just an HL7 interface engine, we are beginning to expand our footprint into industries outside of healthcare.
We’re always looking for interesting projects to showcase. So, if you have data integration needs outside of the healthcare realm, we want to hear about it. We love a good challenge and welcome the opportunity to show off just how powerful IGUANA and The Translator really are. After all at the end of the day; data is data.
Go ahead; give us your best shot.
