Case Study: 3am Technologies
“Integration is no longer a hindrance but has become a valuable product feature.”
Challenge:
Critical Access Hospitals and Correctional Facilities use different EMR and HIS systems than larger hospitals, meaning devices need to offer interoperability with varying systems to ensure strong market penetration.
Solution:
Iguana® is used by leading healthcare technology providers to ensure interoperability between various systems.
Results:
Integration costs dropped dramatically, making it a key differentiator for 3AM Technologies’ product line.
Ensuring vendor interoperability with Iguana
Automated Dispensing Cabinets (ADCs) are computerized drug storage devices that enable medications to be stored and dispensed at the point of care while tracking and controlling drug distribution. They have become common place amongst most large sized acute-care and teaching hospitals.
Historically, Critical Access Hospitals and Correctional Facilities, have not been able to afford the automated dispensing solutions used in larger facilities. This is due to a combination of the physical footprint, incompatible feature set and the complexity of the integration landscape.
3AM Technologies saw an opportunity to support an unfulfilled market by improving the integration capabilities of the ServeRxTM Medication Cabinets.
The ServeRx Medication Cabinets have to integrate with a variety of applications, ranging from enterprise to homegrown. Iguana has the flexibility required to accommodate the diverse range of systems because it doesn’t rely on templates or graphical wizards designed for specific applications.
The ability to utilize a single process for building any interface coupled with other time saving features such as live annotations, a feature exclusive to Iguana, has provided notable benefits. “Being able to see how code changes affect data in real-time is extremely powerful”, notes James Maxwell. “This kind of integrated testing saves us a great deal of time and shortens our testing phase.”
Selecting Iguana as 3AM’s exclusive integration engine has been a rewarding decision. With implementation times drastically reduced, including a significantly shortened testing phase, integration is no longer a hindrance but has become a valuable product feature of the ServeRx Medication Cabinets.
“We’ve been thrilled to add the Iguana platform to our ServeRx product. Iguana eases the integration of our pharmacy management system with software resources from any other vendor. We are definitely seeing great value being added to our product,” concludes Kevin Bracey, CEO of 3AM Technologies.
